From Hotel to Haven

In March 2022, Samaritan House was selected to operate a new homeless shelter for the County of San Mateo. Their goal was to convert a former hotel into a livable space for shelter residents as part of the County’s mission to achieve functional zero homelessness. 

This project needed to be completed quickly to meet grant deadlines and required extensive work to make the space livable and technologically supported. 

Samaritan House trusted UIS to handle the job. UIS took charge, managing everything from network and WiFi design to electrical and telecom vendor coordination, and even working with the county on installation. El Camino House, a 44-room shelter now home to over 100 people, was successfully delivered on time. This project underscores our unwavering commitment to going above and beyond for our clients and our dedication to making a positive impact in the communities they serve.

Cyber Rescue for Nonprofit

In 2024, UIS received an urgent call from our partner Lyra Recovery to assist a nonprofit that had been attacked with ransomware. The cyber attack had heavily disrupted the organization’s technology and brought their operations to a halt.

UIS immediately deployed a team of cyber specialists to the nonprofit’s headquarters. Our team calmly and efficiently developed a plan to remediate the threat and prioritize getting the organization back online. UIS worked tirelessly over the next several days and managed to restore functionality in half the expected time. Looking forward, UIS developed a comprehensive technology roadmap, emphasizing robust backup solutions and proactive monitoring to prevent future incidents.
